LAB VALUES
R+R Lab is grounded by 7 values

01. GRATITUDE
honours Indigenous leadership - gratitude before all else; Haudenosaunee Thanksgiving Address; grateful even for emotional journey and discomfort in climate work.
02. CARE
youth care a lot, want others to care too; tension of ‘saving’ the Earth; rest and slowness even in climate urgency; reciprocity; action; politics of who is cared for, how, and by whom; love; lineage; holding our relations in the center (Donna Haraway); interconnecting
03. IMAGINATION
awe & wonder; imagining futures we desire; dreaming; dreaming again; thinking big; getting inspired by what exists; the magic that comes out of uncertainty; storytelling new ways into being; ongoing practice
04. WELL BEINGS
kinship; vitality, flourishing, multi-species - not just human beings; connection, what does it mean to live
well?, loving yourself is a huge part of it; used to be named resilience - ‘I’m glad we’re questioning resilience, I don’t want to be resilient anymore.’ in climate work.
05. DISRUPTION
disrupt status quo; speaking truth to power; asserting our own life and learning paths; disruption is a gift; what needs to be refused, resisted, and disrupted (including
within our own classroom!)
06. JOY
laughter; play; rest; kindness to self and others; pleasure; love; climate action can and should be joyful; Spirit; “Here is a lesson: what happens to people and what happens to the land is the same thing.” - Linda Hogan
07. SELF-DETERMINATION
a lot of debate on what to name this one; practice the world we desire together; responsibility and response-ability; decolonization; honouring Indigenous knowledge and leadership; youth; Elders; collectives; human rights; uplifting voices and ways of being normally silenced.
